about us - snip and stitchm white river, mpumalanga

So is dit dan ook nou my uitdaging aan jou.

About Us

Snip a Stitch arose from a need which have been identified and could no longer be ignored.

about us - snip and stitchm white river, mpumalanga

The art and skill of sewing, in the past, was transferred from mother to daughter and supported and complemented by the school systems of those years.

Yet, there still are a lot of people that experience the need to be creative. Whether it is to make a new set of curtains or the quilt that has, for so long, been admired, concert clothes for a toddler or a matric farewell dress for a daughter - the need exists.

The technology has, also in die field sewing, took huge leaps. There are computer programs where you capture your measurements, chose the style you want and then print a pattern that fits you - well almost. Some sewing machines, embroidery machines and overlockers also have build in "computers" that simplify the setting of tension and stitch type. Embroidering machines come with their own computer programs, and there are programs for the planning and calculation of quilts. The squares and shapes for patchwork and appliqué can now be done with a computerized cutter.

The days of sewing on buttons by hand is long gone. The days when sewing skills have been passed on to our children, are also long gone. The days when every woman determined her own style is history. Pity that our style of clothing and home decorating, today, are so monotonous, uniform and prescribed. Pity that we have so little time and knowledge to realize our own creativity and individuality.

Snip n Stitch want to reduce the knowledge and skills gap, that is growing bigger.

"If they can, you can" - my father's challenge to us when we said "I cannot". So, this now, is my challenge to you.
